“It’s more than just coffee; it’s a craft.” That’s what Seven Seas Roasting Co. founder Eric Dobbs truly believes. The name is a nod to past explorers and adventurers who risked everything in the pursuit of reaching new lands in search of exotic rewards to return with (coffee).
In 2017, Dobbs set out in search of the best coffees from around the world and to make a difference in the lives of the farmers across the globe. They started their business at local farmers’ markets and later opened their flagship store in South Park, San Diego, in January of 2019. Just months later, they opened a second store in Aliso Viejo. For the month of March, we are celebrating Seven Seas Roasting Co. as our AVCC Member of the Month.
We asked Dobbs more about Seven Seas Roasting, and here’s what he had to say:
AVCC: What should people know about Seven Seas Roasting Co.?
Seven Seas Roasting Co. is a veteran-owned specialty coffee roaster that works directly with farmers. We believe quality can be a lever for change. In 2017, we set out to source the best coffees from around the world and to make a difference in the lives of the farmers we work with in Southeast Asia as well as the communities we serve in Southern California.
We currently have two brick and mortar locations but continue to serve weekly farmers’ markets and community events throughout the year.
AVCC: What do you enjoy about the Aliso Viejo/Laguna Niguel Community?
We are truly humbled by the way the Aliso Viejo community has adopted us as their
local coffee spot!
We are very proud of our Aliso Viejo crew! We enjoy sharing new coffees and watching our customers discover specialty coffee as part of their experience when they visit us.
AVCC: How is Seven Seas Roasting Company involved with the community?
Community is one of our core values. We are active with charities year-round, such as “Spike’s K9 Fund,” which supports military and police dogs.
We support and raise funds for wounded veterans, such as Kenton Stacy and his family. On November 9th, 2017, Kenton was critically wounded while clearing a hospital of explosives in Syria.
Locally, we have supported the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk” in Irvine.
In 2020, we are looking for ways to grow our involvement in the Aliso Viejo community.
AVCC: How has the Aliso Viejo Chamber helped your business?
We joined the AV Chamber before we opened in 2019. The Chamber has been an incredible resource in helping us establish a network in the community. The whole team sincerely appreciated the way then-Mayor Ross Chun and the Chamber rolled out the red carpet by
organizing a ribbon-cutting for our grand opening ceremony.
AVCC: Any other comments you’d like to share about Seven Seas Roasting Co. with the community?
At the end of the day, it’s all about relationships. We build relationships on both sides of the cup, and Aliso Viejo is an important piece of the puzzle. Enjoy the most incredible coffees in the world and rest assured that you are positively impacting the future of coffee, the people behind your daily cup, and our planet with every sip. Thank you to the Aliso Viejo Chamber and community for joining our commitment to ethics and excellence!
