Get to know Urban Plates from Store Manager Patrick Smith:
How and when did Urban Plates first start, where was its first location, and how many locations does it currently have?
Our founders, Saad Nahir and John Zagara, opened the first Urban Plates location in San Diego about 12 years ago in 2011. We’re mainly based in Southern California – out of 17 locations, 14 of them are down here. The company has plans to expand to 40 restaurants, and is currently looking into Northern California, Washington DC, Illinois, and New York for new locations.
What differentiates Urban Plates’ menu and atmosphere from the rest?
We’re fast casual, but with a twist. The twist being a fine dining menu. You can grab a burger on your lunch break, or opt for a date night with some seasonal fish and a glass of wine. Then, you can top it off with a house-made pastry or dessert. It’s quite the expansive menu.
What are some of your customers’ favorite recipes?
It’s a tough choice, but the Moroccan braised chicken is a fan favorite and must-have. You can’t go wrong with the grass-fed steak either, boosted by a side of fresh chimichurri.
What do you enjoy about working within the Aliso Viejo community?
Aliso is friendly, supportive, and as welcoming as can be. It’s a tight-knit community full of caring people, and since we’ve arrived, it’s been an absolute pleasure.
How has being an Aliso Viejo Chamber member helped your business?
