October Networking Breakfast Recap: Aliso Viejo Candidate Forum

aliso-viejoThis past Tuesday, October 11, the Aliso Viejo Chamber welcomed the city’s 2022 city council candidates at the October Networking Breakfast. While the Chamber’s monthly networking events usually feature a guest speaker or a member, this breakfast had something else in store.

Each of the five candidates took the stage to answer a series of questions relative to their goals and strategies as a potential city councilmember. The nomination period for candidacy closed in August, though the official Municipal Election will be held on November 8, 2022. Two of the five candidates will earn a seat.

There are four new candidates on the ballot, and one incumbent – Tiffany Ackley – in the running. Here are the Aliso Viejo city council candidates for 2022:

Max Duncan, Technology Architect

Max is an OC native, long-time Aliso resident, and local entrepreneur who’s deeply involved in volunteering programs around the city. He plans to address the recent uptick in crime, redevelop the Town Center, promote fiscal responsibility, and promote increased community involvement with city council initiatives.

Payal Avellan, Nonprofit Director

Payal, a full-time working mom to a son with special needs, plans to prioritize local infrastructure, investments in youth programming, public safety, and economic recovery. She understands how COVID-19 has affected our daily lives, and believes small business loyalty is the key to economic sustainability.

Tara Ricksen, Small Business Accountant

Tara is an accountant, wife, and mother who plans to serve the Aliso community with her financial savvy. Her core goals are to improve city infrastructure, bolster public safety, prioritize fiscal responsibility, and maintain a welcoming family-friendly community.

Arthur Osorio, Technology Director

Arthur is a Director of Technology and member of the Wood Canyon Elementary School Site Council, which oversees Title I funding allocation. Schools are his priority – from solving problems faced by academic institutions to connecting with local parents and gathering their feedback. Alongside local schools, Arthur is keen on protecting Aliso’s beautiful parks and trails for current and future residents.

Tiffany Ackley, Attorney & Aliso Viejo Councilmember

As a current Aliso Viejo Councilmember, Tiffany is the only incumbent on the ballot. She’s an environmental attorney and community advocate who coaches a local AYSO team with her husband, Jared. As Aliso’s 2021 Mayor, Tiffany focused on economic recovery following the pandemic, bringing more transparency to City Hall, and allowing voters to decide whether councilmembers should have term limits. If reelected, she’d hone in on the city’s financial viability, public safety initiatives, and programs that enrich the Aliso community.

Thank you to the 2022 Aliso Viejo City Council candidates for sharing their goals and plans this past Tuesday! If you missed this Networking Breakfast, be sure to register for the next.
