New Vaccine Requirements For Some Living And Working In Aliso Viejo

Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases, the California State Public Health Officer has issued a few new health orders affecting workers and residents living in Aliso Viejo and surrounding communities. “As with many viruses, COVID-19 is frequently changing,” said Dr. Regina Chinsio-Kwong, Deputy County Health Officer. “These changes result in new versions of the virus called variants. We’re particularly worried about the Delta variant because this version is spreading easily between people and causing more severe illness.”

On August 5, 2021, the California State Health Officer issued two new health orders impacting workers in health care settings. Those orders require workers in health care settings to be fully vaccinated or receive their second dose by September 30, 2021. The second order directs hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and intermediate care facilities to verify that visitors are fully vaccinated or have tested negative for COVID-19 72 hours prior to indoor visits.

On August 11, 2021, the Public Health Officer issued another health order. This new mandate requires all public and private schools serving students in transitional kindergarten through grade 12 to verify the COVID-19 vaccine status of all workers. The order does not apply to home schools, childcare or higher education.

Orange County has continued to experience an increase in COVID-19 cases. Between August 3 and August 10, the seven-day average case rate jumped from 14.8 to 19.4 per 100,000 people, with the average number of daily COVID-19 cases rising from 477 to 627. The positivity rate also increased from 7.2 to 8.3 percent, hospitalizations from 375 to 495 per day, and ICU admissions from 68 to 91 per day.

Those who have not yet been vaccinated or need to complete their second vaccine dose can schedule a vaccination appointment online or by calling the OC COVID-19 Hotline at (714) 834-2000.
