Money Management Tips to Keep You On Budget this Shopping Season

In the U.S., shopping season typically starts in October, and with November knocking at our door, it’s safe to say that we are firmly in the midst of the season. With the average Orange County household spending roughly $1000 per person on their holiday shopping, we’ve compiled a list of money management tips to help you stay on budget this holiday season. Read on for more.

1. Plan Ahead

List out all the people in your life that you anticipate shopping for and assign a monetary value next to each one detailing how much you plan to spend. This will help you get a big-picture view of how much you will be spending and help you adjust your budget as necessary. When drafting this gift list, be sure to be exhaustive! List everyone you plan to shop for, such as your partner, to your in-laws to your hairdresser.

2. Shop Early

Don’t wait until the last minute to do your holiday shopping. Procrastination often leads to rushed and frenzied shopping which can cause you to overspend.

3. Save up for big-ticket gifts

If you plan on buying expensive presents for those on your list, put money aside leading up to your holiday shopping to account for the purchase. This allows you to make those pricey purchases without cleaning out your bank account or going into debt.

4. Don’t forget shipping costs

Don’t get blindsided by shipping fees! Be sure to factor in any delivery fees when calculating the cost of your gifts, and whenever possible utilize free shipping discount coupons.

If you follow these tips during your shopping escapades, your wallets will be safe and you will maintain financial health throughout the holiday season. However, if you would like a closer look at your finances and desire tailored spending and savings advice, consider speaking with one of the financial management representatives below:
