How To Beat The Heat

Beat the Heat, Hot Weather, Staying Cool In SummerSummer is in full swing! As the temperature rises and days get even hotter, the heat can take a toll on our bodies, moods, and electrical bills. And with the National Weather Service issuing a heat advisory notice for the Orange County area this weekend, it’s going to be an uncomfortably warm couple of days. But don’t let the temperature get you down – these tips will help keep you cool, no matter how strongly the sun is shining.

Stay Hydrated

One of the most important things you can do in warm weather is to drink plenty of water. Because you’re more likely to sweat when it’s hot out, it’s easier than ever to become dehydrated.

Find A Pool

If you don’t have a pool at home, call a friend who does or find a nearby community pool. The Aliso Viejo Aquatic Center is open to both city residents and non-residents and makes for a great family outing.

Stay Out of the Kitchen

Instead of cooking meals that require the oven or stove, stick to room temperature dishes like salads or sandwiches. Using these appliances will only add additional heat to an already hot home. If you must cook, head outside and fire up the barbeque.

Visit the Library

If your home doesn’t have air conditioning, find somewhere that does! The Aliso Viejo Public Library is the perfect place to sit back, relax, and spend the afternoon curled up with a good book.

Treat Yourself To Ice Cream

There’s no better time for ice cream than on a hot summer day. Either head to your favorite spot or try something new! Make an adventure out of it by going someplace you’ve always wanted to try, but never had the chance.

Take a Cold Shower

When all else fails, take a cool shower to keep your body temperature down and rinse off sweat.

However you choose to spend your day, be sure to take extra precaution when outdoors. Try to limit any strenuous activity to the early morning or late evening, when the temperature isn’t at its peak. If you do start to feel dizzy, faint, or ill don’t ignore these symptoms as you could be suffering from heat exhaustion or stroke. Your health is extremely important, especially during these warm months.
