Go Green This Spring

The idea of going green can seem overwhelming. But an eco-friendly lifestyle doesn’t have to be difficult and takes little effort! There are many little things you and your family can do that can make a big impact. Not only can living green reduce your environmental footprint, but it can also save you money and help you live a happier, healthier life. And you don’t have to do it all at once! Pick one or two of the tips below to start, and slowly adopt more as the year progresses. You’ll be living green in no time!

Unplug Your Electronics

This doesn’t just mean turning off your computer or television. Even if electronics are turned off, they continue to suck up energy if they are plugged in. The simplest way to adopt this habit is to purchase an UL-certified power strip for your TV and DVD player or computer and printer and simply switch off the power strip before bed.

Turn Off the Lights!

When you leave the room, make sure you turn off the lights! It seems so simple but can make a world of difference. Additionally, you can install compact fluorescent light bulbs in your home to save energy.

Skip the Bottled Water

Rather than buying bottled water, use a water filter to purify tap water and start using a reusable water bottle. Not only is bottled water expensive, but it also contributes to a huge amount of plastic waste.

Shower Smart

The easiest way to save water is to take shorter showers. This will also lower your water and heating bills, too! You might also consider installing a low-flow showerhead. They are fairly inexpensive, and the water and energy savings can quickly pay back your investment.
