CR & R: Our Aliso Viejo Chamber June Member of the Month!

cr&r

When you think of waste management, trash trucks, and garbage bins likely come to mind. And while this isn’t incorrect, it’s just the tip of the iceberg of what CR&R, Orange County’s premier trash hauling company, aims to accomplish.

CR&R isn’t your typical “trash company.” Along with trash hauling, the company also offers street sweeping, construction cleanup, and recycling services, on top of an Anaerobic Digester facility, which produces the natural gas that powers their vehicles. To dive deeper and learn more about the Aliso Viejo Chamber June Member of the Month, we asked Sustainability Specialist Meriah Custer to discuss CR&R’s overarching mission, presence in Aliso Viejo, and how the Chamber has helped their business.

Learn more about CR&R from Meriah:

When was CR&R established, and what types of services do you provide?

CR&R has been locally and privately owned since 1963 when it was founded by Clifford Ronnenberg. What started as a small trash hauler company evolved into a larger dream, with CR&R becoming one of the largest public recycling buy-back centers in Orange County.

Service-wise, we provide trash, recycling, and organics pickup for both residential and businesses as well as collection for construction, street sweeping, transportation services, and storage container rentals.

How many California counties does CR&R currently serve?

We provide waste management and environmental services for six counties in California: Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernadino, San Diego, and Imperial County. You can also find our trucks in Arizona, more specifically Wickenburg and Yuma.

What are some examples of CR&R’s commitment to environmental challenges?

Our environmental commitment is clear in how we’re constantly seeking out waste alternatives, starting with the construction of one of the first modern material recovery facilities in Orange County. CR&R’s Anaerobic Digester is another example and allows us to power a large fleet of recycling collection vehicles with 100% renewable natural gas. This keeps our vehicles fueled, while still diverting waste from landfills and preventing harmful methane gas from polluting the atmosphere.

How does CR&R differ from other waste management services?

Our 60-year history is what sets us apart from the rest. We’re a privately and locally-owned business with the largest market share in Orange County and even have our own in-house Street Sweeping Division.

We’re also the only hauler to design and manufacture our custom trucks, bins, and equipment, and a sole producer of renewable natural gas thanks to our Anaerobic Digestion Facility. Lastly, most other trash haulers don’t have the heavy equipment necessary for emergency cleanup during natural disasters, which we do.

What do you enjoy about working within the Aliso Viejo community?

It’s a pleasure to network with such a friendly and welcoming community. Every encounter with community members, from residents to business owners and city officials, has been a positive experience. They’ve been very understanding and easy to work with in all aspects.

How has being an Aliso Viejo Chamber member helped your business?

The Aliso Viejo Chamber has empowered CR&R to go beyond providing services to the community as a trash hauler, giving us a place to engage in public events and support the local Aliso business community. We’re honored to sponsor the chamber; they’ve done a wonderful job promoting CR&R, linking us with other businesses, and ultimately fostering beneficial relationships within the surrounding community.

Congratulations to CR&R for being recognized as the Aliso Viejo Chamber Member of the Month! Visit the CR&R website to discover their set of critical environmental services, including recycling, street sweeping, and services for residential and business properties. There, you’ll also find detailed information about their environmental goals, from reducing their company’s carbon footprint through recycling efforts to investing in Alternative Fuel Vehicles and Stations.
