Community Growth And Resources Celebrated At AVCC Breakfast

“No one ever injured their eyesight by looking on the bright side.”

The Aliso Viejo Chamber of Commerce networking breakfast certainly started on the bright side with a quote meant to inspire resilience. During the monthly meeting, chamber members shared some valuable resources as well as some big accomplishments within the Aliso Viejo community. Here are a few of the highlights from March’s virtual gathering.

Compass Bible Institute Ribbon Cutting

Compass Bible Institute commemorated its launch on Sunday, March 7th, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Members of the Aliso Viejo Chamber of Commerce – including Chamber President Al Soley – were there to welcome the new training and education center to the community.

Founded by Pastor Mike Fabarez and Compass Bible Church Aliso Viejo, the institute was created to meet the training needs of those who will plant churches, those who aspire to full-time employment in Christian ministry, and those who desire to serve in key leadership roles as highly committed participants in their churches.

Relief Help For Small Businesses Extended

The Internal Revenue Service has extended the Employee Retention Credit in an effort to help more small businesses take advantage of government assistance amid the pandemic. ERC was designed to make it easier for businesses that chose to keep their employees on the payroll despite the effects of COVID-19.

Eligible employers can now claim a refundable tax credit against the employer share of Social Security tax equal to 70% of the qualified wages they pay to employees after December 31, 2020, through June 30, 2021. Qualified wages are limited to $10,000 per employee per calendar quarter in 2021. Thus, the maximum ERC amount available is $7,000 per employee per calendar quarter, for a total of $14,000 in 2021.

Help For Aliso Viejo Families In Need

During Tuesday’s AVCC breakfast, Mayor Pro Tempore Ross Chun spoke about the organization, Feeding Aliso Viejo, and its ongoing effort to help families in need. The nonprofit, formed by parents, teachers, students and community leaders with the support of public and private agencies, continues to volunteer its time and resources to help get food to students and their families each week.

The group opened a new pilot site in March at Aliso Niguel High School. Families with children under 18 are eligible to pick up pre-packaged meals from 10:00 am -10:30 am.
