The Aliso Viejo Chamber of Commerce showed plenty of love for the community during the February AVCC Networking Breakfast. The virtual meeting started with an inspirational quote from new board member Dave Stefanides. He reminded everyone of the importance of not sweating the small stuff and letting the little things go. “If it won’t matter in 10 years, it shouldn’t matter today,” said Stefanides.
Mayor Pro Tempore Ross Chun also spoke at the monthly gathering and updated chamber members on the progress of Aliso Viejo’s COVID-19 Vaccine Super Point of Dispensing site at Soka University. The distribution center opened on January 23rd as the county’s second regional POD location. “Soka University has been practicing for a situation like this for 10 years,” according to Chun. He credited the hard work of City Manager David Doyle with the success of the new POD location.
While there have been a few hiccups such as traffic backups according to Mayor Pro Tem Chun, staff members have continued to make improvements to assure a more simple and organized system. This includes new lighted signs and directionals to help with any confusion for people who enter and exit the new POD site.
Chun also encouraged everyone to begin online registration as the county will soon progress to the next tier. Currently, Orange County is in Phase 1A which includes all tiers of critical and healthcare workers as well as people age 65 and older. You can register online at othena.com.
Amid the ongoing pandemic, Mayor Pro Tempore Chun also recognized a non-profit that’s stepped up to help those who have fallen on hard times. Feeding Aliso Viejo is a community organization founded by parents, teachers, and students with the support of public and private agencies. Those involved with the project have volunteered their time packing and delivering nutritious lunches to safe distribution sites. These lunches are then given to students and families in need.
