“We don’t see the world as it is; we see the world as we are.” – Anaïs Nin
Councilman and former Mayor Ross Chun used those words to start the Aliso Viejo Chamber’s February Networking Breakfast. It’s a particularly inspirational quote for Councilman Chun because he believes it offers two ways to look at the world; you can choose to look for flaws or decide to see the good.
The event’s featured speaker, Stephen Parra, reiterated the theme of choosing your own path. Stephen owns a fitness studio in Aliso Viejo called Even Stephen Movement. His motto is allowing you to embrace the full potential of your body through calisthenics and balance movements. He’s also known for his incredible acrobatic abilities — which he shares on Instagram. While he specializes in helping people achieve their fitness goals, he doesn’t take a traditional approach.
Stephen believes we already have all the answers at our fingertips. He spoke about how anyone can Google, “what to eat or how to lose weight,” but ultimately, it’s how you choose to use that information that makes a difference. “I’m a glorified cheerleader. I keep you motivated and healthy,” said Stephen.
Before wrapping up his speech, he offered one more piece of advice… “ When you cheat, make sure you enjoy it. Don’t stress about it. Eat the chocolate and hit it hard the next day.”
