As the Aliso Viejo Chamber of Commerce welcomes all businesses in and around our community, we also share important information from time to time. We wanted to share news with you that may help you plan or help the growth of your business in 2021. 
Aliso Viejo businesses are now able to apply for the California Competes Tax Credit. The CCTC is an income tax credit for businesses that are expanding or relocating to California. Businesses of any industry and size are eligible to apply for more than $231 million in tax credits during one of two application periods in 2021.
Business owners will be analyzed on 12 different factors including, amount of full-time jobs created, amount of investment, and strategic importance to the state or region. In order to qualify, business owners must use actual numbers from payroll records for the most recently completed tax year.
It’s also recommended to complete a five-year business plan that includes projected numbers of new full-time employees, their job classifications, wages, and projected new investments.
Applicants should request the amount of credit they need to complete their proposed project. Here’s what you need to know if you’re interested:
Important Dates
Applications for the California Competes Tax Credit for fiscal year 2020-2021 will be accepted online HERE during the following periods:
- January 4, 2021- January 25, 2021
- March 8, 2021- March 29, 2021

Prior to each application period, GO-Biz will host online webinars about the California Competes Tax Credit program. Each webinar consists of a 45-minute presentation, followed by a question and answer session. Each presentation includes the following:
- Overview of the program.
- Program goals and evaluation criteria.
- Step-by-step instructions through the application process.

The process takes approximately 90 days, which includes the period when applications will be reviewed and presented to the California Competes Tax Credit Committee for approval.
