From company buy outs to mosquito viruses, here is what’s happening in the community this month…
Verizon Buys Aliso Viejo-based Telogis Inc.
Verizon will soon be adding locally based software firm, Telogis Inc. to its Telematics unit. Telogis makes logistics software that helps companies track and optimize vehicle fleets and is among the fastest growing private companies in Orange County, with annual revenue of more than $100 million.
The move comes as no surprise, as the company was thought to be considering an initial public offer last October. David Cozzens, Telogis’ Chief Executive, shared a statement about the buyout, “Verizon provides brand equity, strength in the market, broad infrastructure, and expansive global reach. The deal positions our collective technologies and services uniquely in the market.” The company also currently has partnerships with both Apple and AT&T, as well as fleet management agreements with Ford, General Motors, and various other auto brands.
Mosquitoes Carrying West Nile Virus Spread In Orange County
Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District announced Monday, June 27th that mosquito samples from various cities throughout Orange County have tested positive for the West Nile Virus. These cities include Anaheim, Irvine, La Habra, La Palma, Orange, and Seal Beach. The District believes recent temperature increases have contributed to the spread, as warm weather shorten the amount of time it takes for mosquitoes to reach adulthood.
While these findings are not cause for panic, we believe it is important to keep the community informed. As temperatures continue to increase over the summer months, we want to remind you to protect yourself by always applying insect repellant when spending time outside, making sure window and door screens are in good condition, and eliminate any standing water at your home. The best way to stay healthy and prevent an infection is to be proactive. Aliso Viejo Center Expected To Turn Profit For First Time
The city-owned center has been under a number of management companies in the last seven years. Originally operated by ClubSport, KemperSports took over in 2010 and operated the center for the next five years. During this time, the center experienced a loss of nearly $1 million dollars, prompting the need for a new operations team. Last July, Wedgewood Wedding and Banquet Center took over and aimed to turn things around by increasing sales efforts and event bookings. Wedgewood General Manager Brea Gardner believes their aggressive sales efforts and ability to book its own events will help the center become profitable.
