Congratulations to Councilman Dave Harrington, Aliso Viejo’s next major!
The Aliso Viejo City Council selected new leadership for 2017 at its December 14th council meeting, appointing the first-term councilman Harrington as mayor. This will be the first mayoral term for Harrington, who was elected to office in 2014. Beginning January 1st, he will take the reins from the current mayor, Mike Munzing. Harrington is a retired sergeant who has spent more than 28 years Orange County Sheriff’s Department. He spent the last year serving as Major Pro Tem under Mayor Munzing. Harrington shared of his appointment, “I’m very humbled. I’m honored to have that role.”
Harrington has lived in Aliso Viejo since 2005 and has been active in the community ever since. He has volunteered as a coach several teams in Aliso Viejo Little League, both Aliso Viejo Girls Softball and NJB basketball. He also enjoys giving back to the community helping build homes with Habitat for Humanity in San Juan Capistrano. He also began a nonprofit organization to help orphanages around the world. The nonprofit now has a local chapter called “The Ladder,” whose mission is to help foster children aging out of the system transition to adulthood. His commitment to the community and desire to keep it safe is obvious.
A devoted father and husband, Dave understands the importance of family. He is married to Michele Williams, CEO of Star Real Estate South County and long-term Aliso Viejo resident. In addition to his son, who is currently serving in the United States Army and daughter, who works in real estate, Dave is a stepfather to Michele’s 12-year-old son, Tyson. Together, they adopted Tamu, 12 and Negasse, 13 from Ethiopia several years ago.
