In celebration of 19 years since joining Orange County, We’ve gathered some fun facts about Aliso Viejo and why this is such a great place to live and conduct business!
- Aliso Viejo was originally part of the 22,000-acre Moulton Ranch. In the 1890s, the Moulton family took ownership of the land the Mexican government originally granted to Juan Avila in 1842.
- Aliso Viejo became the 34th city of Orange County on July 1, 2001, after a petition was launched to put the question of cityhood to a community vote. More than 90% decided to make Aliso Viejo a city!
- The city’s name means “old sycamore” in Spanish.
- According to the United States Census Bureau, the total population is 50,887.
- The city’s slogan is “Aliso Viejo – Experience it all.” It was created by a resident of Aliso Viejo!
- The city is home to an 18-hole championship golf course, designed by professional golfer Jack Nicklaus.
- Aliso Viejo was voted “Best New Home Community in Orange County” by Orange County Register readers.
- In 2009, Aliso Viejo was named as one of the Top 25 Towns To Live Well by Forbes.
- The fossils of an 11 million-year-old Paleoparadoxiid, a creature resembling a hippopotamus, were discovered in Aliso Viejo by a couple from Mission Viejo. The skeleton is on display at the Natural History Museum in L.A!
- The largest employers of Aliso Viejo include United Parcel Services, Pacific Life, Capistrano Unified School District, and Fluor.
